Since a very young age, the newest recruit to the Driven to Tri coaching team, Non Stanford, has been passionate about sport. After being brought up surrounded by the British Gymnastics squad, she become mesmerised by competitive sport and the opportunities it presented. Initially pursuing this passion in swimming, she swam competitively for 6 years and in that time held various Welsh titles, proving herself competitive on a national stage. After starting secondary school, Non was drafted into the school cross country team and instantly fell in the love with running. Over the next few years her running went from strength to strength and in 2004 her potential was recognised by Double Olympic Champion Kelly Holmes, who to this day is her mentor and advisor.

Unfortunately, the latter part of 2006 saw the beginning of what would be 2 years of injury. In that time Non became a student at the University of Birmingham and began swimming with the triathlon squad as a means of cross training; by September 2008, she’d been convinced to give triathlon a shot. She raced her first season in the summer of 2009 and loved the excitement and challenge of triathlon. Since then Non has become a regular member of the Great Britain Elite Triathlon team, claimed the British Elite Duathlon title, podiumed at a European Cup, and finished top 10 at the ITU World Cup in Ishigaki, Japan.

Since graduating in 2010 with a degree in Sport and Exercise Science Non has worked in a mentoring role with young promising athletes from a range of different sports through the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) and is now excited about sharing her passion, enthusiasm and years of experience in competitive sport with others.
